Acupuncture Pain Management
Acupuncture for Whiplash & Neck Pain
Neck pain and shoulder stiffness can have a variety of causes, with continuous mechanical strain, constant stress, and trauma being the most frequently cited.
Awkward position of the head can cause your neck muscles to fatigue, blood circulation in the tissues can diminish, and the joints to “lock” in place. This is very common in people who sit in front of a computer for long periods of time.
Trauma can cause a “whiplash” syndrome, with the muscles in your neck going into permanent spasm and causing pain and a limited range of motion. Car accidents have one of the most common whiplash injuries. Acupuncture is very effective in treating neck pain caused by whiplash.
Stress is also a common factor in neck & shoulder stiffness and pain. People tend to keep much of their stress in the neck and shoulders area. This can cause constant muscle spasm, leading to neck and shoulder pain and stiffness.
At Irvine Acupuncture we treat neck and shoulder with having both the physical and psychological aspects in mind. Generally three to six treatments over a short period of time (2–3 weeks) should give the patient significant results. Pain relief is quicker and better for people involved in trauma or whiplash the sooner the treatments can begin after their incident.

Acupuncture for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS)
Signs and Symptoms
- Tingling in one or both hands
- Feeling of uselessness in the fingers
- A sense that fingers are swollen even though little or no swelling is apparent
- Decreased ability to squeeze things
- Diminish muscle strength at the base of the thumb
- Pain shooting up the arm and sometimes to the shoulder
What Causes It?
The carpal tunnel is filled with tendons of the hand that control finger movement. Tasks requiring highly repetitive and forceful movements of the wrist can cause swelling around the tendons, resulting in a pinched nerve and producing CTS. Increased fluid retention, such as during pregnancy or with certain drugs, can also result in carpal tunnel syndrome.
Treatment
Acupuncture treatment should be given in the earliest stages of carpal tunnel syndrome for the quickest recovery.
At Irvine Acupuncture we treat CTS with acupuncture, electro-acupuncture, Infrared Heat and herbal medicine along with at home exercises that would shorten the time of your treatment.
If carpal tunnel syndrome is left untreated, in advanced stages can become quite serious, involving a loss of sensation, muscle deterioration, and permanent loss of function.
Usually three to six treatments over a short period of time (2 –3 weeks) are sufficient to achieve significant results. Our patients usually have less pain after their first acupuncture treatment.
